Louisiana Computer Fraud Law

The law for Computer fraud in Louisiana can be found at Louisiana Revised Statute 14:73.5. Computer Fraud is defined as the accessing or causing to be accessed any computer, computer system, computer network, or any part thereof with the intent to:

(1)  Defraud

Or

(2)  Obtain money, property, or services by means of false or fraudulent conduct, practices, or representations, or through the fraudulent alteration, deletion, or insertion of programs or data.

Penalty for Computer Fraud in Louisiana

Whoever commits computer fraud in New Orleans shall be fined not more than $10,000.00, or imprisoned with or without hard labor for not more than 5 years, or both.

A Louisiana judge may not suspend the sentence for a second or third conviction.
